About WXXI

WXXI is the essential, life-long educational public media resource that engages, inspires and strengthens our community by bringing highly valued media services when you want them, the way you want them. As a PBS and NPR partner WXXI brings a variety of media and culture to the Western New York area.
As a PBS member High Definition station, we feature award-winning children’s shows, public affairs, science and nature broadcasts. In addition we are one of the most active local program producers in New York State.
Broadcasting accords 5 main television broadcast stations, we provide a multitude of programming to suit all ages and interests. Those programs are often brought to multiple digital platforms to increase our reach among those who prefer to get their media in a non-traditional or mobile device.
WXXI is also an NPR member station, specializing in news and public affairs programming, including community-based talk shows. We offer 6 independent stations that vary from dedicated News, Classical, and AAA music stations. Our continued partnerships with regional colleges allows us to strengthen our relationships with the communities we serve.
WXXI and the University of Rochester to provide NPR news and eclectic music programming to our WRUR station. In Ithaca, NY, WXXI has partnered with Hobart & William Smith Colleges to broadcast a music and news station that will further strengthen public radio in the Finger Lakes region via the WITH station. A broadcast partnership between Hobart & William Smith Colleges and WXXI, providing NPR news and eclectic music programming in Geneva, NY gives us the WEOS platform.
In addition to our on-air and television programming, WXXI provides a wide range of outreach and community lifelong learning events. We provide educational training and informal fun family learning to areas in our community. WXXI Education offers a wide variety of services to unserved and rural communities.
Our targeted educational community outreach delivers services to the community through educational programming, Ready To Learn, pubic media resources to preK-12, adult education and out of school learning organizations.



We also offer on-demand educational video, online resources, social media offerings for parents and educators, informal family learning events, youth media film festival, in-person outreach initiatives and local educational productions. WXXI Education staff also offer professional development workshops for educators, caregivers and parents.
With the addition of CITY Newspaper, WXXI has increased the reach and scope of our audience. CITY offers a wonderful and comprehensive Arts & Culture overview of the region. Including a detailed calendar of active Arts events, CITY ensures our audience is both informed and able to quickly access the Art and Culture events they seek.
The WXXI family would not be complete without the Little Theatre. The Little Theatre is the premier cultural center for the presentation of American independent and foreign films, visual arts and music for the greater Rochester community.
Frequently partnering with WXXI Education we offer the community educational events, special screenings, and community discussions that go in-depth with creators and their audience. The Little Theatre provides local artists a live venue for music and gallery space. The Little Theatre is focused on engaging the community in a warm and inviting atmosphere with the intent to stimulate and expand thought, inspire the spirit, promote discussion and open cultural horizons.
